It happened in the blink of an eye. As a child, Stacy Cook suffered a traumatizing accident that nearly took her leg. She lost part of her foot and faced a series of complicated surgeries to try and rebuild it. Doctors believed she would likely never again be able to do the things that kids do – run, jump or even walk normally.
It was an awfully young age to reach a crossroads. But the adversity – and Cook’s reaction to it – would build a lifetime of resolve and resilience in her she may not have found any other way. She did indeed walk, run and jump as a child. And as she grew up, she constantly challenged herself to overcome adversity with activities like distance running, back country hiking and other adventures. Her resilient personality has formed the cornerstone of a career spent studying human learning and helping organizations develop practically creative solutions to challenging, real-world problems.
